Is $97 Air Duct Cleaning a Scam? What Phoenix Homeowners Should Know

If you have seen $97 air duct cleaning offers around Phoenix, you are right to ask the question before you book one.

The short answer is that it is usually not a scam, and it is also usually not the whole job. Those two things are both true at once, and the gap between them is where homeowners get caught out.

What a $97 offer typically covers

One HVAC system, a set number of vents, and a vacuum at the main trunk line. That is the normal scope at that price.

What is rarely spelled out is everything outside it. The air handler, the blower, the coil, the return ducts and the dryer vent are quoted once somebody is already standing in your house.

So the advertised price is honest. The impression it creates is not. You believe you have bought a clean system, and what you have actually bought is a starting point.

Why a low advertised number creates the upsell

This part is worth understanding, because it explains behavior that looks like dishonesty and mostly is not.

Ninety seven dollars does not cover a crew, a truck, fuel and two hours of work. It cannot. A company advertising that price only becomes profitable if something else gets sold after arrival. The cheap number is not really the price. It is the cost of getting in the door.

Once you see that, the aggressive add on stops looking like bad individual technicians. It is the business model working exactly as designed.

A fair test for any home service: would this recommendation still be made if the person making it earned nothing from it? If you cannot answer that, you are not evaluating the advice. You are evaluating the pressure.

The moment that costs you money

It is not the phone call. It is the hallway.

The real number gets decided after a van is already parked outside and an hour of your day is gone. That is a terrible place to make a financial decision and a very good place to close one. Saying no is awkward and saying yes is easy, and everybody involved knows it.

Why the dryer vent is the one that gets skipped

Watch what happens when the dryer vent is priced as an add on. A good number of homeowners decline it.

Not after weighing it up. They decline because they already said yes to one number that day and do not want to say yes to another. So the one duct in the house that is a genuine fire risk is the item most likely to get left dirty, purely because of where it sat on the invoice.

How Forever Vent prices it instead

One flat number. $499 for one HVAC system, cleaned end to end.

Supply ducts and return ducts. Every register and grille in the house. The air handler. The blower. The accessible coil. And the dryer vent, in the price. Every component brushed, vacuumed and disinfected.

That figure does not move because your house is bigger, or your ducts turn out dirtier than the last one we did, or you live further out. It is the same in Phoenix, Gilbert, Sun City and everywhere between.

Why the air handler is what separates two quotes

If you compare two prices and cannot work out why one is several times the other, this is almost always where the difference lives.

Cleaning duct runs is relatively quick. Opening the air handler, cleaning the blower wheel properly and getting at the coil is the slow, awkward part of the day, often in an attic, often in July. A price that cannot absorb an extra hour up there is a price that is not including it.

So when you compare, do not compare the headline figure. Compare whether the air handler is inside it.

Nothing is due before we start

No deposit. No card held. Nothing changes hands until the work is finished and you have looked at it.

And we do not accept payment from unhappy customers. Not a partial refund, not a credit toward a future service. You look at the before and after footage from inside your own ductwork, you look at your house, and if you are not satisfied you do not pay for it.

We can offer that because duct cleaning is unusually easy to verify. Ducts are either clean or they are not, and a camera settles it in about four seconds.

What our technicians are not allowed to do

Sell you anything. There is no add on, because there is nothing left to add. The components are already in the price.

Nobody on our crews carries a price list, works a quota, or earns a percentage of anything sold on site. That is not a policy we wrote on a website and hoped would hold. It holds because there is nothing on the other side of it.

The restrictions, said out loud

There are two, and both are about the condition of your system rather than the size of your house. Active mold, and rusted or corroded ductwork.

Neither is a cleaning problem. Mold needs remediation. Corroded duct usually needs replacing. Kitchen and bathroom exhaust vents are a separate service as well.

If we find any of that, you get shown it on camera and told plainly what it would take. No quote on the spot.

The four questions to ask anybody, us included

Whatever you decide, ask these before you book. They take thirty seconds on the phone and they settle the whole thing.

How many vents are included at the advertised price. Whether the air handler and blower are in it. Whether the return ducts are in it. Whether the dryer vent is in it.

Ask those four and the cheap quote and the honest quote usually land within about a hundred dollars of each other. If another company gives you better answers than we do, book them.

So is $97 air duct cleaning a scam?

No. If you genuinely want a basic vacuum of accessible ductwork on one system, and the company tells you plainly that is what you are getting, that is a fair transaction and there is nothing wrong with it.

The problem is never the number. It is finding out what the number did not include while a technician is standing in your hallway waiting for an answer.

What we would tell a neighbor

Do not ask a duct cleaning company what it costs. Ask what is included at that price, and what is not.

The gap between those two answers is where your real bill lives.

Booking it

Call or text and we will give you an arrival window. Two to three hours for one system, four to six if your home runs two. Phoenix, Gilbert, Sun City and the rest of the Valley, seven days a week, and you pay when it is done.

What a complete cleaning actually involves

Worth knowing what you are comparing, because “duct cleaning” is a phrase rather than a scope.

Registers and grilles come off and get cleaned, not wiped on the visible face. The supply runs and the return runs are both done, and the returns are where most of the material actually is, because they are pulling household air. The air handler cabinet is opened. The blower wheel gets cleaned blade by blade, since a packed wheel moves noticeably less air while drawing the same power. The accessible coil is cleared. The dryer vent is brushed the full length of the run with a vacuum pulling lint back, and the exterior hood is checked.

That is several hours of work. Any quote has to cover it or quietly leave parts of it out.

How to tell whether you need it yet

Not a calendar. Duct cleaning is not an annual service, whatever anyone tells you.

What does move the timeline is a remodel, new flooring, a couple of dogs, somebody in the house whose allergies got worse indoors, or dust settling back on the furniture a few days after you wiped it down. A dryer taking two cycles to dry a normal load is the clearest sign of all, and that one is the vent, not the appliance.

If a reputable company cleaned your system three or four years ago and nothing has changed, you probably do not need anybody yet. We would rather tell you that than sell you a visit.

You see the before and the after

Almost all of this work happens where you cannot watch it, inside walls and above ceilings. Without footage you are not evaluating the work, you are evaluating how much you liked the crew.

Every job is documented from inside your own ductwork, before and after, and it is yours to keep. It costs nothing extra. Charging separately for proof that the work happened would be a strange business to be in.
